What is First Night?

First Night Dahlonega will WELCOME 2022 as we celebrate together to seek hope, find purpose and celebrate performing arts in true festive style. Churches from all around Dahlonega as well as Dahlonega Market Place and Hancock Park will be turned into incredible performance venues to celebrate culture and the arts showcasing amazing talent from all over the region.

The First Night movement began nearly 35 years ago in Boston when a group of artists and residents got together to create a small festival of the arts to help ring in the New Year. Since then, the movement has grown in Boston and throughout the United States. Today, over 100 towns gather to celebrate with family and friends in a festive fashion to ring in the new year.

First Night Dahlonega is special for the North Georgia area as it was created to support one of Dahlonega’s most beloved non-profits, Jeremiah’s Place. Each year, a First Night Committee representing the staff and directors of Jeremiah Place begins planning early in hopes to make the festive evening incredibly special while they support the efforts of this amazing organization. For a $10.00 fee for adults (children 12 and under and active-duty military are free) everyone who attends has access to all the entertainment, the town venues all evening long! Then at 11:59 pm all of Dahlonega joins together to welcome in the dawning of 2022 with their own Golden Nugget Drop in the town square.

It’s all great fun, affordable, safe and venues are alcohol-free. It’s a North Georgia favorite, for sure, so make your plans now to join us for the 7th Annual First Night Dahlonega on December 31st. We will see you there!

Who Does It Benefit?

First Night is special to Dahlonega and it gives purpose to welcoming hope and helping those who are currently homeless find a home. All the proceeds of First Night Dahlonega benefit the families and children of Jeremiah’s Place.

The causes of homelessness are many — insufficient income, unanticipated eviction, emergencies, poor financial practices, lack of affordable housing. Homeless families stay with relatives, in their cars, in tents, and under bridges.

Jeremiah’s Place provides our families with a clean, safe, and stable place to live while they work to create productive lives. We address the basic and individual human needs of each family upon entry to our program, during their stay, and upon exiting the program. We also connect families with community, faith-based, and public resources and provide follow-up services. All services are free to our families.

First Night Dahlonega invites you to ring in 2022 with the beautiful purpose of assisting the families and children of Jeremiah’s Place and supporting the programs of this amazing community.
